Art Therapist, Youth/Adult- FT

POSITION: Art Therapist- Youth/Adult

Job Summary

PSA Behavioral Health Agency is a private, non-profit behavioral health agency dedicated to the treatment and recovery of individuals with mental health challenges who may also suffer from substance abuse, trauma, and/or other behavioral health issues. PSA Art Awakenings is a psychosocial rehabilitation program in a therapeutic open art studio environment.  Studios throughout Arizona offer therapeutic programs in a supportive setting to promote mental health, personal growth and recovery, vocational training, and physical wellness through the performing and visual arts.


The Art Therapist provides group and/or individual art therapy in a therapeutic environment. Incumbent must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment.


Essential Functions.

•             Provide art therapy services to enrolled youth/adult.

•             Conduct and document individual enrollments into the program, including collecting information for the creation of a psychosocial assessment.

•             Oversee the health, safety and welfare of youth and adults in the program.

•             Develop individualized treatment plans in coordination with clinical teams, parents/guardians, and individual service plans from the referral source.

•             Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community agencies, case managers and clinical teams.

•             Participate in clinical staffing, Child and Family Teams, and individual service planning sessions with case managers, treatment staff, family members and others to identify and meet client treatment and transition needs.

•             Assist clients in identifying and pursuing realistic treatment goals.

•             Maintain information on community resources for client assistance, transition planning, and support.

•             Provide education, assistance and support to family members and others involved with the client to enhance awareness of mental health challenges and to increase their ability to contribute to the rehabilitation process.

•             Conduct and document continuing assessments of client functioning.

•             Maintain client records and other documentation according to agency standards.

•             Provide emergency face to face counseling and/or crisis intervention as needed to avert or in response to client needs.

•             Complete documentation within the identified time frame. 

•             Attend supervision and training to attain the amount of hours as required by state licensing standards.

•             As requested, participate in program and organizational events and functions. 

•             Provide back up to other staff as needed and/or as assigned.

•             Other duties as assigned.


Qualification Requirements


  • ATR, ATR-BC and/or Independent Licensed Behavioral Health Professional Preferred.      
  •  Behavioral health experience/education to qualify as a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) Required.

•             Master’s degree in Art Therapy or related field that focuses on art and art therapy.

•             Bilingual preferred but not required.

•             Current and valid certification in first aid and CPR and valid AZ driver’s license.

•             Five-year MVD Report that meets the agency’s auto insurance carrier’s coverage requirements.

•             State of Arizona DPS fingerprint clearance card.
